The Arbiter

Help out in future tournaments by volunteering your time.

Purpose

The role of the arbiter is to ensure participants of a tournament adhere to fair and orderly conduct while enforcing the rules as defined by FIDE and The Oceanside Chess Club. The Arbiter must also be able to fulfill duties such as setting the clocks and reporting scores to facilitate game play. A good arbiter is someone who understands the game, rules, and can act impartially and in best interest of the competition.

Requirements

To become an arbiter for The Oceanside Chess Club you should have a solid understanding of chess and must be familiar with both the FIDE rules and the rules set out by the club. Familiarity with the Saitek Competition Pro chess clock is also important, as arbiters will need to set, monitor, and adjust clocks during the tournament as needed. This position is Volunteer only.
